While trying to clean up my den I just found a paper with some nifty old
Mac web site addresses and thought I'd post 'em.

512k Mac Page:

128k Mac Page:
http://www.angelfire.com/free/mac128k.html

Mac Museum:

There is also a cool "Macintosh Musem" site, with info and data on most
all Macs from the 128k on at:

A Mac SE/30 can run almost any of the current software. I used one for a
while and loved it. I would still be using it but needed a CD drive and
some other things. *But* I could've upgraded the SE/30 if I needed to.

I used the Internet with a PPP connection with MacTCP & ConfigPPP, used
Claris Emailer (great for multiple accounts), Netscape 1.1N for the web,
Fetch for FTP, NCSA Telnet to get to my shell account, and could've fone
the IRC thing to if I was into it.

I even recently bought a 19" monitor for it, and the Radius TPD SE/30
video card to run it from an SE/30. The SE/30 is one of the fastest, most
expandable little compact Macs I've seen. I think the only thing that
beats it would be the Color Classic II, but I can't find one of those for
sale.

You are correct that the SE/30 is an excellent compact Mac. It even has 8 bit
stereo output! Except for the lack of NuBus slots, the SE/30 is powerful and
expandible. Check out issue #7 of MacAddict magazine for an excellent article
on the possibilities of the SE/30. Two things, though: 1) The SE/30 can go
higher than 32 megs of ram, it's just hard to find 8meg or 16 meg simms that
don't cost too much, although the Chip Merchant is reported to have them. 2)
Be very careful of the boards you put into the PDS slot. Some Video boards
ARE NOT compatible with some OS versions. For example, although the Micron
Xceed SE/306-48 8 bit card works (hesitantly) with OS 7.5.5, but WILL NOT run
Virtual Memory or RamDoubler. It also will not synch a VGA monitor with
v7.5.5, even though it is supposed to support VGA as well as Apple RGB. There
are still lots of accelerators available, namely the Sonnet Allegro 33MHz,
that plugs into the CPU socket (if the CPU chip is removable) and the
MicroMac DiiMo 030 50MHz PDS board.

Being an SE/30 owner, I think you are making a great choice.

Good luck,
Brian

I'm wanting to purchase a compact Mac for the purpose of getting on the
Internet... and I'm SORRY, I've been in Windows Hell for so many years I'm
not even sure where to begin.

I have a 5215 (as well as a SE/30 & Mac ll) that had the 'pink screen'
problem. If its the exact same problem I had, there is an Apple Extended
Warranty covering the cost of repair. The problem seems to be caused by a
faulty cable between the monitor and power supply or logic board, and can be
replaced free of charge by an authorized Apple service center.

Hi,
I have a Laserwriter Plus. Someone gave me an old toner cartridge -
brand new from Apple. It has an expiration date on it of July 1992. I
didn't think toner expired. All the stern warnings from Apple on the
package to not use it past its expiration date got me worried. Is it ok
to use? What trouble might I encounter?

Thanks for the help,

Tripp Frasch

Sun Remarketing out of Utah carries Keyboard, mouse, and software that is
compatable for the Mac Plus. There are also web pages that exist where one
can downlaod old B&W Mac software like MacWrite. I also have a limited
amount of shareware that might also work. I would like to trade for B&W or
16 color royalty free clipart that I use on web pages. E-mail me for more
information and specifications. BTW-Sun Remarketing can be reached at
www.sunrem.com.

If you have a place called "Computer Rennaissance" in the neighborhood,
stop by and see what they have. I picked up a Global Village 9600 Baud
Rate fax/modem new in the box with software/documentation/cables for
$25.00. It worked great on my Mac Classic. I have since sold the machine
and modem to a Kindergarden teacher who has had good results with the
machine. Computer Rennaissance is a division of "Play It Again Sports". It
can carry some interesting bargains like $1.00 user manuals.

In terms of modems, I read out of copy of "MacAddict" that some of the
older Macs (like the Mac II) cannot run a modem speed passed 9600 Baud.
Keep that in mind when doing your buying. You may save a few $$$.

We were thinking about serving a web site from multiple Mac's including a
couple of SE's to distribute the load. Graphics on one, automated email
response on the other... Does anyone know where to buy cheap ethernet
cards for these? I have one at home (supermac) but no documentation and
no software...I'll need at least 2 total.

Thanks

Hi- I have just recently decided to invest a little more money in my IIfx
and get some more RAM. Can anyone recommend a good establishment that they
have done business with that sells RAM ( I will even buy used if it helps
me stretch the amount of ram that I can get). My funds are somewhat
limited, but I can't stand the constant crashes or hangs that happen
because I don't have enough physical ram.

The next question falls along the same lines...I am about to enter the
hospital for spinal surgery and will probably be in the hospital and then
rehab for many weeks if not months. Some friends have gotten together and
given me a PB-160 (Really nice of them to do it :-)), with 8MB or physical
ram, I would also like to up this to the max (14MB if I read things right)
and want to know where I can get the upgrade to bring me up to that. I
don't have a problem with used simms (providing they work when I install
them) and again my funds are quite limited. If anyone can help me out with
either info on where to get it, or if you have what I need and are willing
to part with it for a reasonable price please let me know. I am very
greatful for any assistance that you all can offer.

BTW...Have a Happy Easter :-)

Please email me privately so as not to inconvenience other listmembers.

Thanks a lot,
Bill Bair
